queen   Answers to How do you?

Answer to the 1H making 12 dilemma!

North added the eight and East put in the ten, declarer winning with the king. The H10 was played and ducked by West and ducked by East! Now a small heart towards the H8 tempted West to play the king (its better to beat an eight than a ten). Now East had to win with the ace!

Before East had had time to contemplate his switch; West, who thought he had won the trick laid down the S6. DIRECTOR lead out-of-turn! West was instructed to lead a spade. He had to play the jack otherwise dummy would win with the nine. This allowed South to win, and cash two more rounds of trumps. Dummy was entered with S9 (West discarding a club). Now the South hand was re-entered with the DA. The boss spade was now cashed and West was squirming. He was reluctant to discard one of his club honours so a small diamond was discarded.

The fidgeting seemed to place the DQ in the West hand, so South took his chance by finessing against the queen. Now dummy's DK and boss D4 allowed South's two club losers to disappear!
